Questions Buyers asks most

A 1 carat natural diamond solitaire in 18K gold costs from about AED 12,000 at Solitaire Jewels. Oval, marquise and princess cuts run from AED 15,000 to 25,000 and where yours lands depends on its colour, clarity and cut.
The longer answer is the conversation we have across the table at our Gold & Diamond Park boutique. It covers what each part of the price pays for, where you can save without seeing the difference, and where you shouldn't.
1 carat diamond ring prices in Dubai at Solitaire Jewels
Our halo rings with a 0.70 to 1.01 carat centre cost AED 8,000 to 20,000, and a 1 carat solitaire starts at AED 12,000. These are our published ranges:
|

|

|
Solitaire, pear or marquise |
1.50 ct and above |
25,000 to 45,000+ |
All prices are for 18K white, yellow or rose gold, checked in October 2026. They're ranges, not list prices, because every natural diamond is priced on its own grades. You get an exact figure once we've shown you real stones side by side. A halo brings the price down because the circle of small diamonds around the centre makes a 0.80 or 0.90 carat stone look like more on the hand. You can see how halo, hidden halo and classic solitaire settings compare in our engagement ring styles guide, or browse the full range of natural diamond engagement rings.
How colour and clarity move the price
Colour and clarity decide where a 1 carat diamond sits inside those ranges, and the very top grades cost far more than they look.
|
Colour and clarity |
Where it sits in the range |
What you'll actually see |
|
I to J colour, SI clarity |
Lower end |
A faint warmth face-up, invisible in yellow or rose gold. A carefully chosen SI1 can look clean to the naked eye. |
|
G to H colour, VS clarity |
Middle |
White face-up and clean to the eye. The sweet spot for most engagement rings. |
|
D to F colour, VVS clarity |
Top, and beyond |
Colourless and almost flawless under 10x magnification. You pay for rarity you'll mostly read on the certificate. |
Our advice is to spend on cut first, then colour, then clarity. A beautifully cut H VS2 usually looks livelier than a poorly cut E VVS1, and it costs less. If your ring is yellow or rose gold, you can drop a colour grade or two and the difference is very hard to see.
VS1-SI1 with D-G colour set in white gold is a sweet spot for the Brides-to-be of the GCC as it appears to be eye-clean and at the same time being colour-less or near colour-less and offering a perfect budget friendly option.
What else changes the price of a 1 carat diamond
Five more things move the number, roughly in order of how much they matter:
-
Cut: The cut grade decides how much light comes back to your eye. On a round brilliant, Excellent costs more than Very Good, and it's the one grade worth stretching for.
-
Shape: Round brilliants cost the most per carat because cutting one loses more of the rough crystal. Our own engagement ring budget guide has the figures by shape.
-
The grading lab: GIA-graded diamonds usually cost a little more, because GIA grades strictly and the trade prices from its grades. A more lenient lab can show a higher grade for the same money, which is why we use only GIA from 1 carat up.
-
Fluorescence: Strong blue fluorescence can lower the price of a top-colour stone. In a warmer colour it can make the diamond face up whiter, which is a quiet way to save.
-
The setting: A plain four- or six-claw solitaire in 18K gold adds the least. A hidden halo, a pavé band or a matching twin band adds more.

Why 1.00 carat costs more than 0.90
Diamond prices step up at round-number weights, and the jump at 1.00 carat is the biggest, because so many people want a ring they can call "one carat".
On the other hand, the difference is tiny. A 0.90 carat round brilliant measures about 6.2 mm across; a 1.00 carat measures about 6.4 mm. Most people can't tell them apart without a ruler, and nobody can across a dinner table.
So if you'd rather put the difference into a better colour or a diamond eternity band to wear beside it, ask us for stones between 0.90 and 0.99 carats. Every diamond we sell that is 1 carat and above is graded by GIA and laser-inscribed. A GIA grade carries the most weight if you ever sell.
What AED 15,000 and AED 30,000 buy
Around AED 15,000 is where you can get a 1 carat centre diamond ring with fancy shapes, but since that is the starting range for the fancy shapes (where the range starts at AED 15000 and goes up to AED 25000), the colour or the clarity or at times both need to be a bit lower. But if you select a slightly lower carat weight for the centre diamond i.e. 0.70 ct to 1.00 ct (range AED 8000 to AED 20000) and pair it with a halo or an invisible halo setting the trade off in terms of size is minimal and the colour and clarity is of higher quality.
Around AED 30,000 opens up three directions:
a) 1 carat round brilliant in the whiter, cleaner grades, (i.e. within our AED 12,000 to 40,000+ range).
b) A pear or marquise of 1.20 carats or more, where the ring price starts at AED 25,000+.
c) A 1 carat fancy-shape solitaire twin-band set, with a matching diamond band.
Does the shape change the price?
Yes, shape changes both what you pay per carat and how large the diamond looks. Here's the shape-by-shape breakdown, so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Round brilliant: The premium choice.
Rounds cost the most per carat of any shape. Two reasons: cutting a round removes more of the rough crystal than any other shape, and demand for rounds is the highest in the market. If you love the classic sparkle, you pay for it.
Oval: The value favorite.
Most fancy shapes, ovals included, come in at around 25% less than a comparable round, per our budget guide. The bonus: an oval's elongated outline makes a 1 carat stone look noticeably larger than a round of the same weight.
Marquise: The biggest look per carat.
Priced in the same lower tier as other fancy shapes, a marquise spreads its weight along its length, so it shows the largest face-up area of any shape. You see more diamond for the same money.
Pear: The big presence, smaller price.
Like the marquise, a pear's elongated profile makes it read larger than a round of equal carat, while staying in the more affordable fancy-shape price band.
Emerald: The budget for clarity instead.
An emerald cut also costs less than a round, but spend the difference wisely. Its long, open facets act like windows, inclusions are easy to see, so it's worth putting the savings toward a higher clarity grade.
Is it cheaper to buy a diamond ring in Dubai?
Often, yes, although it's never automatic. Three things work in your favour:
-
The trade is here. DMCC figures show a record US$41.7 billion of diamonds traded through Dubai in 2025. Jewellers here buy from dealers in the same city.
-
Lower tax. The UAE charges 5% VAT on jewellery, against 20% in the UK and similar rates across much of Europe.
-
Tourist VAT- refunds. If you live outside the UAE, you can reclaim most of that VAT through the Planet tax-free scheme at participating shops. You need to be 18 or over, spend at least AED 250 and take the piece out of the country within 90 days. The refund is the VAT less 13% and AED 3.60 per transaction.
Just remember that a low price on a diamond with no recognised report is no bargain. Compare the same laboratory, the same grades and the same carat weight, and only then compare prices.
Paying, delivery and aftercare
You can spread the cost, and aftercare is free for as long as you own the ring.
-
Installments. Spread the cost with Tabby or Tamara on eligible pieces, or pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Engagement and custom rings start with a 50% deposit by card or bank transfer.
-
Delivery. Free express delivery anywhere in the UAE. We also ship to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar by FedEx International Priority, usually in 4 to 7 working days. With an added advantage of having a store in Kuwait you can just walk into our store and walk-out with a piece you like or request a piece of choice to be delivered to you at no extra cost all across Kuwait.
-
Aftercare. Every ring comes with our lifetime warranty, free cleaning while you wait and free resizing, except on full eternity bands.
Certification for a 1 carat diamond
Every natural diamond of 1 carat and above at Solitaire Jewels is graded by GIA, and only GIA, and laser-inscribed with its report number on the girdle. We don't use other labs at this size.
Labs don't all grade alike, and a more lenient one can give the same stone a higher colour or clarity grade. At 1 carat, a grade that's one step too generous can add thousands of dirhams to the price on paper. None of it comes back when you sell. GIA grades strictly and consistently, and the trade prices diamonds from GIA grades. So a GIA-graded diamond is valued on the same terms you bought it on.
Check the report yourself on GIA Report Check before you pay. Our guide to GIA, HRD and IGI certification explains what each report tells you, and why we chose GIA.
Why Solitaire Jewels uses natural diamonds only
When you're spending five figures on a ring, you should know exactly what you're paying for. That's one reason every diamond we sell is natural. A natural diamond's price reflects its rarity and its grades, set by a worldwide market rather than a production line.
A lab-grown diamond's price reflects what it costs to make, and that has fallen year after year. You would rather want your money spent on something the earth made once than on something a machine can make again tomorrow. Nothing we set is lab-grown, moissanite or a simulant, so every ring in our cases is natural and graded.

FAQs
-
Is a 1 carat diamond big enough for an engagement ring?
For most hands, yes. A 1 carat round brilliant measures about 6.4 mm across and reads clearly as a solitaire on a slim or average finger. A 1 carat oval, about 8 by 6 mm, looks larger still. If you'd like more presence for the same budget, a halo setting or a fancy shape adds visible size.
-
Why is a 1 carat diamond so much more than a 0.90?
Diamond prices step up at round-number weights, and demand for a full carat is the strongest of all. A 0.90 carat round measures about 6.2 mm against 6.4 mm for a 1.00, a difference few people can see. Buying just under 1 carat frees budget for a better colour or cut, though our stones under 1 carat carry IGI rather than GIA reports.
-
Is it cheaper to buy a diamond ring in Dubai?
Often. A record US$41.7 billion of diamonds were traded through Dubai in 2025, so jewellers buy from dealers in the same city, and UAE VAT is 5%, against 20% in the UK. Visitors can reclaim most of the VAT through Planet tax free at participating shops. Always compare the same lab, grades and carat weight.
Yes, on eligible pieces through Tabby or Tamara, as well as by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Engagement and custom rings start with a 50% deposit by card or bank transfer. Ask us in the boutique or on WhatsApp which option suits the ring you've chosen.

How long does a custom diamond engagement ring take?
Usually, 2-4 weeks from the day you choose your diamond and approve the design. A classic solitaire set around a stone we already hold is quicker than a fully custom design. We'll give you a firm date at your appointment.
